Root Canals

There’s no need to worry if you find out you may need a root canal. In fact, root canals are now relatively painless and are actually fairly similar to a filling treatment.

Infected teeth cause throbbing or pain, so if you have these symptoms, give us a call and ask about getting a root canal. At Ricard Family Dentistry, we have the latest technology to make sure your procedure is effective and as comfortable as possible.

Infected Tooth Symptoms

Root canals are a treatment used for when the soft area in the center of the tooth (pulp) becomes infected. As we’ve said, common symptoms of tooth infection that will probably need a root canal include throbbing and pain, but there are also other signs.

  • Chips, cracks, or fissures in your tooth
  • Repeated dental procedures needed in the same area
  • Darkening of the tooth
  • Gum swelling and/or a recurring pimple on the gum

The Root Canal Therapy Procedure

Unlike the common belief, root canals are typically a fairly simple procedure. We will drill an access hole into the tooth, then remove the infected pulp. The tooth will then be cleaned and sealed. After the procedure, we will fit the tooth with a crown to prevent damage.

This process will usually be completed in one visit. In the end, your tooth will be even stronger than it was before!
