Did anyone have the guts to tell you that your breath has a funky smell? Whether your spouse or your best friend, you must have it checked by your Fort Pierce dentist to determine what’s causing the odor.

All too often, people shrug it off as if it’s inconsequential, without realizing that eventually, it will take a toll on your self-esteem. If you’re worried about bad breath, your dentist can help eliminate it.

Do You Have Bad Breath?

What Causes Bad Breath?

The number one cause of bad breath is poor oral hygiene. If you don’t brush your teeth twice a day and keep forgetting to floss once daily, food debris will remain between your teeth, and this can cause bacteria and plaque to build up.

Plaque accumulation can lead to gingivitis or gum inflammation. When your gums are infected and inflamed, they will cause your breath to smell. Furthermore, foods that contain strong spices and herbs may contribute to foul-smelling breath.

How Do You Prevent Bad Breath?

A quick and easy way to stop bad breath is to practice good oral hygiene. No matter how busy or tired you are, make time to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes using fluoride-based toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush.

You should also floss once daily before bedtime, and more importantly, don’t forget to visit your dentist twice a year to have your mouth examined and your teeth thoroughly cleaned.
